Andrew Karasev asked:

Well, we so far have read tons of press releases, blogs, general news and articles on Search Engine Optimization Strategies, or SEO. Internet is in essence open press, where the privilege to be an author is virtually given to anybody and even if you don’t have specific knowledge or product expertise – you still can be an author and publish your expressions and emotions or even fiction stories in the form of blogging. Plus, internet authors can easily support their publications with photo illustrations, video and audio materials. Open press however doesn’t typically expect authors to be paid. Considering this free contribution rules, one may say – why at all should I contributing and write articles? The answer is simple – as an author, by contributing to your product user community (educating them, helping them to resolve typical issues, provide other common knowledge), you generate traffic to your web site and by doing so, you potentially increase your sales. Let’s review some details:

1. Article Format. Article is typically the knowledge, meaning objective, where you as an author are recognized expert in your product or service. Article is not for subjective matters, such as emotions, anger etc. – if you would like to let your emotions to be published, consider internet blog instead. Article is not a novel, meaning that it typically has one or maybe two internet browser pages. We also recommend you to use structured article format, where you have introduction, then main section (with either bullets or number as paragraphs) and then conclusion and finally about author section, where you can allow some ads about your company and very important the link to your website

2. Article Internet Life. The advantage of article over other internet news formats is article syndication. Yes, articles are typically copied either through RSS feeds or other mechanisms, by other media portal editors to their sites, of course if you did decent job as internet article writer and they like your article content. Other internet genres, such as PR, blogs are typically not syndicated, however you may see some exceptions

3. Where t publish your articles. Here, please do not expect easy answer, as your article may fit to your product related professionals sites. Consider also publishing your article to generic article submission portals. If you are novice to article publishing, open google and type in submit article in search bar. When you get results to your search, please consider two criteria: first is article media portal page rank and second is the position in your keywords search on major search engines: google, yahoo, msn, and similar

Stephen Todd asked:

Internet news releases are the key to getting a quick flow of traffic to your web site.

Whilst Internet news releases can drive traffic, very few web sites use them as part of their Internet marketing strategy, as they think they’re too expensive and just for larger companies.

Internet news releases are for ALL companies, large or small, and they are surprisingly cost effective. They are similar to the press releases sent to newspapers and magazines - only we’re using the more cost effective version - web, or Internet news releases.

Press Releases - Why they don’t Work

A press release is of very little value to you - a web address in the newspaper or on the radio, requires the potential site visitor to write the information down and visit later, when they’re at their computer. It simply doesn’t work like that

If they’re not already at their computer, looking for what you have to offer, and able to get it by simply clicking a link, then they’re not interested!

What they do

A web news release can be similar to an article, but it’s put together differently, as it’s targeted at the journalists that provide content for Google News, Yahoo News, MSN News, etc.

Nothing released onto the Internet ever goes away, so you may get traffic over a long time span, but we are aiming for a lot of traffic over a short time span - we expect most of the traffic will arrive within 3 to 7 days of submission to the various news release web sites.

Like keyword articles, a news release is re-distributed via .XML feeds, so they will also appear in blogs, and in the news section of a wide variety of web sites.

Get a Traffic Surge

The web, or Internet news release has a shorter life span than an article, but the traffic can come in a large surge, whereas an article will bring in a steady stream of visitors over a long time span.

A good news release, which catches the imagination of news websites, can see traffic of tens or even hundreds of thousands.

How to Write a Good News Release

Of course, your news release needs to be of interest to viewers to get visits to your website, so what makes a good one?

· Something topical that people are interested in

· Something that has a high perceived value, that you are giving away for free

· Something that you have that is unique

The fact is, most websites can put out something to catch the public’s imagination, but they haven’t thought about it!

A good Internet marketing company can draft, and distribute a web release that will pull traffic.

Cost Effective

The cost of an Internet news release is very low - not the $2,000 US dollars charged by many press release agencies, in most cases it’s just a few hundred dollars!

Targeting news release sites is one of the most cost effective, if not the most cost effective way of marketing on the Internet.

Andrew Karasev asked:

In the past if you were small business, there were no ways, but to place paid advertisement into local newspaper to attract some attention to your small retail store, restaurant, or repair shop. Internet opens unlimited and virtually free possibilities for you, however there are some conditions, or better to say, you have to know how internet search engines, such as google, yahoo, msn work and how to make them work for your business, attracting leads, potential customers, employees, vendors with better conditions, etc.

1. Article and Keywords. First of all article should be a bearer of your website strategic keywords, otherwise it will be gunshot to the blue. Try to incorporate some keywords into article, press release, news or blog header, then keep supporting your introduction with additional keywords combinations. Do not overuse keywords, however, your publication should be written in natural language, otherwise both editor and search engine declassify it

2. About Author section and links back. The theory of page ranking says that the web page should have minimal number of outgoing links in order to achieve higher ranking itself. At the same time it should receive maximum number of incoming outside links to be boosted. We believe that this logic is in essence abolished and nowadays google deploys multiple concurring parameters to determine the page rank. Plus, official page rank, that you can see on google toolbar is actually related to page aging process and is not directly related to real pagerank in search results. Just try to think about internet news. You often see news headlines relevant to your search queries on the top and obviously these news headlines are on not yet ranked pages of media portals. Back to the paragraph – feel free to place up to five links back to your web sites

3. Originality of the header. Yes, we believe that google tries to evaluate the header to be dense with relevant keyword and at the same time to be uniquely original and in essence represent good example of your creativity as journalist. We believe that it matches relevance and originality of header words combination. Please see alchemy keyword in the header and this might be one of the reasons for this article to be ranked relatively high

Bruce Orr asked:

Broadcasting is the term most often used to describe the act of disseminating the news, but for some companies, narrowcasting the news may be a good business strategy.

People’s news gathering habits have changed drastically over the past few years. Businesses that use digital signage can benefit from adding a news feed to their signs. Not only will narrowcasting the news get more people’s attention, it fits right in with the way many coveted demographics (affluent, educated and under 40) get their news - on the fly and in small chunks.

Trends in News Gathering

It used to be that people got their news from their daily paper or their nightly national news broadcast. With the rise of the Internet, news seekers have shifted to online sources in huge numbers. According to an August, 2008 report by the Pew Center for the People & the Press, the changes have been dramatic:

• In 1998, 13% of the public went online for news three days a week. In 2008, that number had increased to 37%.

• In 1998 only 6% of respondents went online for news on a daily basis. In 2008, that number had increased to 25%.

• In 2008, 80% of people reported that they absorb news in some way every day. But traditional news sources (newspaper, TV networks and radio) saw their share of the news gathering audience shrink from 90% in 1994 to 73% in 1998.

What does all of this mean to companies with narrowcasting networks in their restaurants, bank branches, transit platforms and waiting rooms? People want to be informed. They want the latest news. And they are comfortable getting it from a wide range of sources, even those that might have been frowned upon as less than trustworthy a decade ago.

Including news in your narrowcasting network adds value. Instead of feeling they are being advertised to, people will appreciate the information being provided and gain a positive impression of your business.

And how does your business stand to gain? Again, we can extrapolate from the Pew Center study. The study divided groups into segments, including Integrators and Net-Newsers. The Integrators gather news from traditional and online sources. Net-Newsers rely much more heavily on online sources for their news.

It is what these segments have in common that is of most interest to creators of narrowcasting programming. They are both well-educated and affluent. Net-newsers are younger, but both groups combined represent a highly desired demographic in the eyes of advertisers.

How Narrowcasting the News Might Work in Your Business

News narrowcasting is not suited to every business. Busy grocery or department store shoppers will not stop to read news items on a digital sign. But for businesses where customers need to wait, narrowcasting the news makes sense: in a restaurant lounge where people wait for a table; in a medical office; in a bank branch; on a commuter train or subway platform.

The news feed can be incorporated as a small segment of the screen, leaving ample opportunity for your narrowcasting network to display video and images that promote your business. A balanced approach to informing and marketing will resonate strongly with your audience, and have a positive influence on your business.

IC asked:

This is it folks! The web is about to die, at least this is what AT&T is saying in regards to the huge bandwidth consumption after high-speed connections were marketed and the capacity of their equipment or Internet backbone. According to the company’s statements without a drastic hardware upgrade the Internet we know and love would run out of bandwidth by the year 2010, while this may sound a bit far ahead of the go-ahead to remind you that 2010 is just around the corner!

It is human nature to point fingers or blame someone else when there is a big problem which is hard to solve, this is exactly what AT&T is now doing, they blame broadband for the entire problem, according to the company everyone was basically used to access the Internet through the narrow passage of a dial-up line, later on the high-speed communications revolution began (which by the way, was highly marketed by themselves) — with sites like Youtube and others which are constantly stream of their content in high definition are putting a lot of strain into servers and company routers.

According to AT&T, if everything remains constant AT&T’s Internet will crash by the year 2010, this is a very bold statement released by a company who heavily markets their high-speed products to consumers who now have to pay for all of the hardware upgrades which will need to be done. The estimated cost of the necessary upgrade comes close to $19 billion, why such a high amount of cash you may ask? — according to the company there was a monstrous increase in data transfers when broadband hit the market and taking in consideration growth projections the amount of data which will be exchanged by the year 2015 will grow to nearly 50 times as much as we experience today.

The Marketing Angle (correlation to Internet marketing):

AT&T knows what they’re doing, by the time they market it their broadband products they knew there was going to be a dramatic increase in the demand for such services, and they are now facing a huge overhead when it comes to replacing an upgrading all of their equipment. See the amount of money that will be spent in hardware upgrades is considerably large the company now needs a way to justify itself in front of consumers who will have to pay a premium on their bandwidth package.

Will the Internet crash? Absolutely not, AT&T doesn’t host the Internet per se, but they do provide services to a lot of American consumers who use their servers and fiber optic lines in order to get online, throwing this bomb on to consumers will only prepare them to pay an even higher premium for web services which is a great marketing strategy for the company.

With so many companies offering Internet services to American consumers this new announcement is a great PR strategy for AT&T which will now be under the spotlight after such dramatic way to spin expenses on a hardware upgrade they knew was imminent. Do you think you can use a similar marketing strategy to put your website on the map? — your ability to do so will determine how successful your internet ventures will be.

Richard Stoyeck asked:

Very rarely are we given the opportunity as citizens to participate in a revolution. The citizens that founded our republic participated in a revolution that has affected every corner of the earth for more than 200 years now. Our grandfathers and fathers participated in a revolution during World War II when we successfully ridded the world of Adolph Hitler and his technology of death that was sweeping civilization.

Finally we all participated in a quiet revolution when Communism fell to its knees a little more than a decade ago, and went out with a WHIMPER. It didn’t have to be that way. Millions could have died in Eastern Europe and in the USSR itself. Very quietly, this brutal totalitarian dictatorship that sought to enslave the planet quietly disappeared, and more remarkably, they all became capitalists. What a wild world we live in.

I submit to you that we are on the eve of a new American Revolution, perhaps as powerful as the birth of our democracy in the 1700’s. What has happened is that the power in this country is in the process of being re-distributed to the people themselves who are the voters. We were born as a Republic, remember the words, “And to the Republic, for which it stands,” in the Pledge of Allegiance. We are fast becoming a Democracy based on the information dispersion created by the Internet and cable television as a tool in everybody’s home.

Granted there is tremendous noise on the Internet, meaning that there is an abundance of useless information, but in the universe there are many gems, and they are on the Internet as well. Think about what has happened in just a few short years? It wasn’t so long ago, that mainstream media had a 100% liberal bias. Clearly, an objective look at ABC, NBC, and CBS would reveal their liberal orientation. From their origins to their story topics, the media always played it to the left of center. Richard Nixon would NEVER have had to resign from office if the either the Senate or the House was Republican and the media was neutral.

Today, with the Internet and Cable television, the tide has certainly evened up, and maybe swung to the other side. Dan Rather of CBS broadcast a disparaging story on George Bush and the National Guard which may have been correct, but Rather knew he couldn’t prove it. In an attempt to influence the election two weeks before the election, he broadcasted it anyway. The Internet blows up his 40 year career and forced his resignation. The bloggers were relentless in attacking Rather and it resulted in the disgraceful behind the scenes, to date never revealed story of the firing of Dan Rather. Without the Internet and Cable television, Dan Rather would still be representing his liberal bias on prime time television every night.

Traditional media and print journalism can’t stand what has happened with the Internet and cable revolution we are participating in. When Republican Congressman Foley committed political suicide by writing inappropriate sexual e-mails to young pages, you and I were able to get on the Internet and read the e-mails for ourselves to determine the guilt of innocence of this man. We didn’t need anybody with a POLITICAL AGENGA filtering it for us, and therein lies the REVOLUTION.

We are able to filter stories for ourselves. No longer do I have to listen to Dan Rather tell me what’s right or wrong. I can listen to Rather, read the NY Times, and go to the Internet and Cable TV to get additional information that the liberals refuse to divulge to me.

The following will amaze you. A month before we invaded Iraq there was a former weapons inspector on television giving an interview in which he spoke in an explosive voice. He was ranting and raving that “There are no weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, and we aren’t going to find any.” I thought he was crazy, but I also said to myself, this is former weapons inspector who was THERE. He’s not a recently released patient from an insane asylum.

Now the reality is that he was right, and the President was wrong, the CIA was wrong, the military was wrong. How was this guy right, and knew he was right, and a 300 billion dollar a year war machine couldn’t get it right? I have never seen or heard from this individual again. Has he been hushed up, why no interview, articles, or books? After all, he got it right, and we all got it wrong.

The Internet is leveling the playing field. If you want to know why John Kerry lost the national election, look to the Internet. The guy was being defined by the Internet before he could define himself. I know Governor Pataki was making a joke when he said that “John Kerry has to Google himself every morning to see where he stands on the issues,” but he wasn’t so far off the truth in retrospect.

If I could have one prayer answered in politics, and I believe it’s going to be answerd, this would be it. I would like to see every candidate, liberal or conservative raise 100% of their financial backing from the Internet and be free from these Special Interests and Lobbyists that are DESTROYING the democratic basis of our country. I don’t want the drug companies to dictate pricing to Medicare for drugs for senior citizens. I also don’t want teacher’s lobbies dictating education in this country.

Did you know from kindergarten through senior year of high school, our education system ranks 16th in the world? On a college level, we rank number one and there is no one even close. Why you ask? It’s because the college system is private, and the public system is not. Even on a college level when you have public colleges like the University of California system or State University of New York system, they are world class only because they have to compete against a private system. Our public school system doesn’t compete, and therefore it is allowed to remain mediocre in the face of 15 superior systems throughout the world.

It is time for the Revolution to continue. By 2012, we will not recognize the political system in the United States as the dispersion of information shifts unfiltered to the people through the Internet’s power. We should all welcome it, and thank God for it. What a wonderful thing that we will be alive to see it.

Goodbye and Good Luck

Thomas Pretty asked:

The search engine optimisation (SEO) industry is a fast paced and frenetic business to be involved in. Developments in SEO are almost constant and hence news in the industry is a vital consideration for anyone who wishes to succeed. Subsequently a large number of news sites have come into operation to fulfil this need for constant SEO advice, guidance and development. With a wide base of readers these sites have a responsibility to report how the industry is going to change and what courses to follow when performing SEO.

With so much currently being spent on the internet it is unsurprising that so many companies have arisen to fulfil the requirement for online marketing and optimisation.

The industry as a whole is being embraced by the world of business wholeheartedly as companies finally realise the potential profits to be made. With savvy businesses so willing to employ SEO, the rise in news and advice sites is an understandable reaction.

Methods of SEO change rapidly and hence news is an essential element of the business. Because of this tumultuous ongoing change, news is vital to determine what is ethical. The term ‘black hat’ is often bandied about in the industry, it is used to describe methods that the search engines find distasteful and unscrupulous. These SEO methods however change from time to time and some ‘black hat’ methods have previously been considered ethical. This is why news helps those in the industry keep up with change and pursue only ethical methods.

SEO news sites do however contain all manner of information. Although some purely focus upon giving information to those within the industry, some give advice to novices. This advice varies in quality but generally attempts to explain the SEO process to clients who may wish to go it alone.

News sites do however usually contain some form of get out clause by stating that for efficient optimisation conducting the process yourself is rarely advisable. Those within the industry will always advise hiring professionals to carry out the task as the process is often laborious and requires certain expertise.

Knowing what SEO methods will work is usually left off news sites due to the fact it is ultimately part science, part art form. Because there are no clearly defined industry standards on how to perform optimisation, different companies will have different methods. Of course companies have varying success and for a successful SEO company their own position for terms such as ’search engine optimisation’ should be considered. Anything in the top five shows that the company is proficient in what they do.

Some of the news sites delve into the deep technical elements of the optimisation industry. Articles about code writing are commonplace and may as well be written in Latin for the lay reader. It is only experienced SEO specialists that will gain worth from these articles and even then some are left scratching their heads.

Staying one step ahead in the SEO industry is crucial. News sites have filled a niche in the market for one of the fastest growing industries worldwide. Due to the global nature of the internet, news articles can be written by all manner of nationalities and from differing perspectives. Of course the Americans are attempting to dominate the market but through plucky entrepreneurial spirit some in Britain and Europe are rapidly surpassing their counterparts from across the pond.

The industry is obviously dependent upon what the search engines will do next. Subsequently SEO news has a large element dedicated to algorithms and processes used by the major search engines. Understandably staying up to date with any changes to the ways in which search engines operate is a prerequisite for success. Without an extensive knowledge of current affairs, it is easy to fall by the wayside.

ZeeBuddy asked:

An economy that’s growing at 8.5% and a very bright outlook for the future…that’s the India story at it’s best. But, the unmentioned success story, which in a way completes the picture, is the free press that our 60 year old democracy has managed to sustain.

Going back to 1870 when India’s first newspaper - The Bengal Gazette - to today’s plethora of newspapers and news channels; the media industry has come a long way. However, a little bit of analysis on the growth of media in India, who mostly serve India news reveals that the actual growth and the steep growth curve actually happened only later with the advent of the vernacular press.

This shift from the major languages, Hindi & English, towards regional languages made sense considering the diversity in the country. Here in India dialects change every few hundred kilometers and languages change from state to state. To effectively make people understand what all that’s important to them, news in one word, it was vital that they be addressed in their language.

That’s why, the vernacular press has done exceedingly well in India. The same idea was carried forward first by the radio and then by the visual media. No matter how important the national level news channels in Hindi and English may be, people across India do keep a tab on the news channels that offers them news in their own language. The common man simply loves to understand news in the language he is most comfortable in.

This way latest news India slowly became latest news from Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, Bangalore etc.

Moreover, this localization of content also ensured that breaking news, the mainstay of a news channel, also got a local flavor. So, one has breaking news from Delhi or Mumbai etc. News was essentially local in nature but due to the localization of the channels content policy, such news also got prominence.

But the addition of more local content in a way is leading to the dilution of the media’s core competencies. That perfect balance between what’s important on a local level and what’s important when it came to the bigger picture was still wanting.

Welcome, to the world of Internet news. An arena where news is served piping hot, latest news and breaking news concepts work and at the same time a judicial mix between international, national, vernacular and local content could be achieved with finesse.

The Internet news model holds great promise for a country as diversified as India. News, anywhere, anytime is something this model can indeed deliver. However, on the flip side, the low penetration of Internet in India is slowing down the advent of the Internet arena in India. As of 2008, there are 60,000,000 Internet users-comprising 6.0% of the country’s population-in India.

But for Internet to perform at its best level there has to be a broadband connection. All that is considered as USPs of Internet; namely the seamless integration of content with video and a lot of interactivity thrown in, would perform at their optimum only on a super fast broadband connection.

There is a sense of inevitability to the world we live, what has to happen will eventually happen. If these prophetic words hold true for one change, certainly, then it is the advent of the era of Internet news in India. Wait & watch…the coming times are going to be exciting for news genre!
